#KnowYourColleague – with this series of articles we highlight our colleagues’ hobbies and their stories. We aim to create a safe space where everyone is welcome to bond and share their adventures as we grow as a community.
Our colleague, Mariam Arakhamia, is currently working at DevelopmentAid Recruitment Solutions as a Recruiter for International Projects.
The thing Mariam enjoys the most is traveling. For her, it’s not just about visiting new places, it’s about exploring different cultures, customs, and traditions. Mariam adores seeing the differences and similarities between people of different nations.
Mariam’s passion for traveling started when she became an exchange student and spent a year at the Buchanan High School in California, USA. This was her first experience of living abroad, being fully independent and building friendships all around the world.
For this reason, she started to become passionate about learning new languages. In Mariam's opinion, to be able to understand and talk to locals in their mother tongues is the hardest but the most respectful and exciting thing one can do. So far, she speaks English, Russian, and German. Spanish is next in the line.
Mariam has visited eight countries. The United States of America and Turkey, specifically Istanbul, are her favorites because both countries offer a unique mixture of different worlds, one part is ancient and historic and the other is fully modernized with skyscrapers and shiny statues.
The experience of living, studying, or just visiting different countries has had a very positive impact on Mariam’s personality and has played a huge role in the career goals she has chosen.
